Oaxaca, Mexico: Governor Ruiz says, "What, me resign? No way José!"

Governor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz: ¿Mi renuncia? Ni está en la mesa, ni se me ha sugerido, ni la voy a aceptar".

My resignation? It is neither on the table nor has it been suggested to me nor would I accept it if it were.

"ni aunque me pongan una pistola en la sien, les voy a dar mi renuncia".

“not even if they were to put a pistol to my temple would I give them my resignation.”

Governor Ruiz blames a lack of resources for the almost 5 month-long strike. He says that the state only had 65 million pesos and the teachers union demanded 115 million. He said that if the state had been able to offer the teachers 115 million pesos back in May, the problems would have only lasted 5 or 6 days.

Uh-huh.
