Ford to wield machete on the Way Forward

In a brutal attempt at solvency, Ford Motor Company will close 14 assembly plants and shed 34,000+ jobs, 30,000 from manufacturing and 4000+ from salaried positions. These things are always brutal, so Ford's "Way Forward" plan is not an exception. The salaried cuts, as well as a cut of 12% of "its ranks of corporate officers" will take place before this year is out. The 5 assembly plants already announced, as well as 2 more yet to-be-announced, will take place between now and 2012. Ford will reduce its domestic production by 26%, or 1.2 million units. The assembly plants to be closed include Wixom, Atlanta and St. Louis.

Man, that's gonna hurt.
