Two PETA Employees Arrested on 31 Animal Cruelty Charges

This is interesting. PETA is People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Two PETA employees were arrested by Ahoskie, N.C. police and charged with 31 counts of animal cruelty and eight counts of illegal disposal of animals. Police found 18 dead animals in a dumpster and 13 dead animals in the couple's van, which is registered to PETA.

The dumpster is behind a shopping mall which had complained to police for some time about dead animals being left there. Police had staked out the dumpster and caught the two PETA employees in the act of dumping more dead animals.

According to PETA, it has an agreement with local animal shelters to euthanize dogs and cats. A PETA spokesman said, however, that dumping the animals in a dumpster was "outrageous".
