Masked APPO thugs cruised a couple of hundred yards down the street from the occupied Juarez University and attacked and destroyed the Burger King on Avenida Universidad last night. I heard the incessant blasting of the burgler alarm at about midnight. It went on for over an hour. No police answered the call because, well, the restaurant wasn't being burglarized. It was being vandalised and burned and the Burger King lacked a vandalism/arson alarm.
The vandals left behind a sign painted on one of the few unbroken windows, "Multinacionales asesinos" (Murdering transnational businesses). Yeah, right. Burger King is notorious for bloodthirstily hacking and slashing its way to local hamburger prominance. Of no interest to the APPO criminals were the Oaxacan owner of the franchise nor the 30 employees who are now out of a job. That's OK, though. The owner is "rich" and the employees can easily find other work since jobs here are so plentiful.
Hey, I know! They can get a job in one of the many hotels in the city. Oops. Perhaps not, since average hotel vacancy rates are at 90%+. Or, maybe they can start carving wooden figures, alebrijes and the like, for all the tourists to buy. Well, maybe not, since there are no longer any tourists. I guess all the former Burger King employees are just SOL.
